She shouldn't be here, it's my fault she's down here.

She followed me to prison, she followed me down here

She was stronger than I thought. This place would've killed me ten times over without her.

I owe her all the life I have.

A mistake made in haste, the wrong hiding place.

One pulls her to the void, another approaches fast.

The choice is but clear though it is my last.

I pull her free but am pulled away,

Don't fret little one for you may yet see the day.

So as pain fills me and I do reach my end

These thoughts and prayers come forth, for her soul to mend.

'Hold fast little one, do all you can to live,

for you have an extra life now, for it is mine to give.'

The snow had long started to fall over Parappa Town, Christmas was fast approaching. The people were all dressed up and out and about, preparing for the culmination of the holidays. Lammy the Lamb couldn’t be happier really, Milk Can was going to have a concert for Christmas and she was all about herself with excitement. “Pre-concert jitters getting to ya?” Katy the Kat came up behind her carrying a speaker. “Oh yeah, but not for the reason you think…” She blushed and her feline friend and bandmate knew all too well what was on this sheeps mind. “Heh, your guys' duet?” Lammy almost squealed, a far cry from her anxiety ridden early days before she and Parappa started going out. “Yes!! It’s our first time singing together on stage and I’m so excited and nervous at the same time!” She danced in place a little during and after her little ramble. Ma-san, the ever present voice of blunt truth came behind them with a replacement bass for her set. “You guys have been practicing for months now. You’ve mastered the song and can sing plenty more well enough. You will be fine.” She continued onto the stage with little effort, eliciting both of her fellow bandmates to say, “How does she do that?” Katy and Lammy looked at each other and laughed, they were all a bunch of ridiculous goofs.

Across town a familiar dog trudged along through the snow, though having fur, Parappa still shrunk into his overcoat and shivered as the frosty breeze blew. The streets were sparsely filled as most of the inhabitants were already making their way to the concert. Parappa sighed, it had been five months since he had asked Lammy out, and they’d been going steady since then. He gave a sad smile, Lammy had come so far out of her shell since they’d started. He couldn’t deny that he was happy about that, but this was Christmas and he hadn’t found the right gift. While Christmas was a great time to begin with, Parappa considered it the unofficial anniversary of their dating. He searched every shop in town the whole month, whenever he had the time he would window shop, and still he found nothing. The pup’s shoulders slumped, he was just about to turn around and head to the concert when a glint of light caught his eye. Without hesitation he bolted in a beeline, slipping in the street before sliding into the window. He groaned as the shop owner came out, “Goodness boy are you alright?” With no lapse in effort the plastered puppy pointed directly at what he sought, tapping the glass before the owner managed to peel him off. The merchant looked into the window and smiled brightly, the locket he had his eyes on was truly one of a kind, A silver heart with a gold inlay, and the tiny addition of a finely cut ruby in the center. “Got your eyes on a gift for the lady do ya?” The Goat owner smiled as Parappa shook his senses back into his head. “You got that right homes.” The dog smiled brightly as he entered the shop. “It’s our five month anniversary… well sort of, and since it’s Christmas I-”

“Say no more m’lad, I was once a young billy too, let me just get that rung up for you.” Parappa blinked, ‘Oh Jeez! Do I have enough on me? What if it’s too expensive? Please let me have enough!’ The panicked thoughts raced through his head like a runaway train. He almost began chewing his fingernails before he saw the final price. He breathed a huge sigh of relief, “You gotta believe!” He froze before looking at the rather bewildered shopkeep.

“Y-yes, w-will that be cash or….” Parappa laughed a bit sheepishly, “I think I have just enough on me.” He nodded to himself and fished his wallet out. He counted the bills he had prepared in advance. He knew he would spend a lot on her gift, though he hated carrying so much. The shopkeep rang him up with practiced ease and soon his gift was boxed up and wrapped. “Oh, you didn’t have to wrap it pops.” The goat was having none of it.

“My boy! I have seen you on the telly, you and that sheep have something even I didn’t have back in my day. True love like that doesn’t come around willy-nilly.” The little wrapped present was handed to the pup with a smile. “Now go, you have somewhere to be and that storm looks like a big’un.” Parappa looked and gasped. The snow outside was coming down a lot harder than it had been. “Yikes! Thanks Mister, Merry Christmas!” Without another word Parappa bolted out the door and into the cold blizzard. The wind hit him and already sent him off his feet. He held the box close to his chest as he grabbed a hold of a light pole. The wind died down for a moment and he used this to make his way in the direction of the concert. Another block and the wind blew him flat against a wall. ‘Jeez! If this keeps up I’ll be a pancake by the time I get there.” Getting Peeled off the wall once again, Parappa’s rescuer was a familiar face he was happy to see. “PJ! Thanks a lot bro.”

“No problem, but what are you doing out here, shouldn’t you be getting to the concert?” Parappa blushed a little, though maybe that was from the cold. The large bear crossed his arms with a knowing smirk, “Ahhh I see how it is. Well we better get moving if we want to get you there before the concert starts.” Parappa looked at him incredulously. “How?! The venue is on the other side of town and this weather doesn't want to let up.” PJ was not about to let his friend miss this concert, especially if Lammy was waiting for him. With surprising speed PJ hoisted Parappa up on his shoulders, “Whoa!”

“Hold On!” With a shout PJ barrelled forward, almost sending his poor passenger flying as he held on for dear life. His eyes widened as Pj drove forward under a sign, the resulting whack almost knocked the wrapped gift out of Parappa’s hands. He yelped and flapped like a flag in the wind before pulling himself back, he stuffed the gift into his coat before more signs came through and Parappa grimaced. “PJ can we ‘Whack’ run on the ‘bonk’ side away from the ‘pow’ Signs!”

“Whoops, sorry buddy.” The bear course appeared in the distance. A road stood in their way and PJ wasn’t slowing down. “Pee-jaaaay, you’re not thinking what I think you’re thinking?” PJ smirked. “Here we gooo” Parappa screamed and covered his eyes as cars honked their horns and PJ moved quite deftly for one his size. With a running leap that almost sent Parappa off his shoulders, PJ completely cleared a car that they would’ve hit before reaching the other side. The bear panted, “Man I’m out of shape.”

“Out of shape?! You’re like a parkour master dude!” Parappa couldn’t hold in his excitement at the bear’s feat and PJ chuckled, “Well I can’t just eat and sleep all day then DJ all night can I?” The bear’s usually indifferent expression had broken into a smile and the two were already closing in on the Concert. Parappa beamed wildly and patted the gift box in his coat, before realizing something. “Stop!!!” PJ skidded to a halt, finally sending Parappa flying into a mailbox. With a roll Parappa got back to his feet and looked around. “I just realized I have to do something first.”

“Parappa… We’re gonna be late.”

“I know, but believe me when I say that I, Need, to do this.”

PJ sighed and shook his head before hoisting the dog on his shoulders. “Where to?”

Milk Can as a whole was getting worried, they had already gotten through most of their set and Parappa still hadn’t arrived. They wrapped up the final song and were taking a break before what they had announced would be a special duet performed by Parappa and Lammy. Lammy was already nervous as it is and now her boyfriend hadn’t shown up. She looked up from her moping and saw the digital clock strike the appointed time and she frowned, maybe Parappa had gotten caught up with something. It was like him to get caught up in things, but of all days why did it have to be today? A hand patted her shoulder and Katy’s smile, while somber, was welcome. “Let’s go, the crowd is waiting…” The pain was evident and Lammy stood up slowly, not wanting to do this but knowing they couldn’t keep the crowd waiting.

The cheers and applause had mellowed out, and though the noise picked up as they took to the stage, the absence of a certain rapping dog soured the mood. Katy took to the mic and opened her mouth to speak, but Lammy placed a hand on her arm and took the mic herself. “Hello everyone, I know we promised an awesome duet to close out the night, unfortunately the second half of this duet has-”

“YOU GOTTA BELIEVE” The shout almost shook the place, and Parappa didn’t even have a microphone. The accompanying crash knocked Katy and Lammy off their feet, with Ma-san standing as if nothing was happening, scrolling through her phone with barely a glance up at the dog. With a snatch the dog had his mic and punched up to the crowd, “Are you ready to Rock???” The resulting cheer shook the stadium again and Parrappa grinned, helping Lammy off the floor. “Sorry I’m late, had to run an errand and it took longer than I thought it would… say, where’s-” A familiar bear jumped through the doorway and came skidding to a stop on stage, snoozing away from exhaustion. “There he is.” He chuckled, “Did you know he can do parkour?” Lammy was still recovering from the blast of an entry that Parappa had made, “I have many questions…. But for now, apology accepted.” The sheep girl shook her head and went to retrieve a free hand mic. “This one seems more your style.” They traded as Katy got up and The four took their places. The crowd was now cheering steadily. “Y’all ready?” Ma-san twirled her sticks as the rest of them turned to nod. “One! Two! Three! Four!”

The reaction to the duet was one of absolute awe. The crowd had never seen the two sing together and almost immediately the chemistry between them was imprinted in the minds of all who saw them. Katy and even Ma-san took pause at the climax of the first song, it was nothing like their jam sessions together. Parappa and Lammy sang together like two lovebirds, like the sun and the blue sky, or as PJ put it, (once he woke up) like peanut butter and jelly. As the first song ended and they flowed into some of their lesser practiced ones, the crowd's enthusiasm barely wavered, even a mistake here or a slip up there didn’t curb the excitement. As the concert neared its end, Parappa knew that if he wanted to give her the gift, and really cement it for the both of them and everyone around them, now was the time. “Well everyone, it’s been a fun time, but it’s about time we all settle down, and head out for the holidays.” His face began to redden as he patted his coat, he had forgotten to take it off but it hadn’t bothered him until now. “But before we do…. I uuuh. I’ve got something to say, and something to do.” The bandmates all looked at him, Lammy was confused, but Katy, Ma-san and PJ all smirked or smiled knowingly. “As you all know, and if ya don’t I can’t help you.” Laughter replied to his joke as Lammy began to blush. “Me and this lovely lady have been going out for five months, and it has been some of the best times of my life, and I’m praying that it’ll be even better from here on out.” He turned to face the nervous sheep who was smiling nonetheless. “Lammy, I was late, because I was getting this for you… Happy five month anniversary.” He pulled a hastily wrapped box and moved to give it to her, already the crowd was ooing and awing with happiness. With a bow and his hand extended he held it. “Awww… Parappa… is this why you were late?” Parappa blushed and stood up straight. “Heheh, yeah, I had a hard time finding the perfect gift.” Lammy smiled and began unwrapping, softly shaking her head, ‘Of all the times…’ The box lid came off and in shock she immediately dropped it. “Parappa…..” Cameras were out and several people gasped as they got zoomed in. Once again the concert goers released their noises of adoration for the couple as Lammy lifted the locket from the box, mesmerized by it when a moment ago she was a little embarrassed by Parappa reminding everyone of their relationship. As they stood, Katy moved over to the now conscious PJ and whispered something in his ear. He gave a small smile and a nod before moving closer to the two lovebirds. “That’s not even the best part… Open it.” Parappa’s encouragement goaded Lammy on and she gently pressed the locket open, revealing one of the very first photos they had taken together. They stood with their cheeks gently pressed against each other with soft but joyful smiles plastered across their faces. The words, “Together Forever” were printed on the bottom. Lammy’s felt tears coming to her eyes as she looked between the dog and the locket and then back again. She sniffled and actually let a joyful sob escape her before she lunged forward to embrace the dog, “I LOVE IT” She cried and the crowd began cheering once again, though not as wild as when the music was playing, the excitement was just as palpable as before. However the crowd fell silent as they noticed something, Katy sat on PJ’s shoulders and hung something over the two with a small pole. Parappa laughed and blushed hard at the same time and Lammy herself looked up to see a sprig of mistletoe hung between them. She froze up a bit before moving some hair out of her face, looking away nervously until Parappa gently directed her back to face him. “Merry Christmas Lammy.”

The sheep girl giggled and smiled once again, “It’s still early silly.” They both chuckled before she pulled him closer. “Merry Christmas Parappa.” They leaned forward, their lips touched on stage, and the roar of the crowd was so intense, even by New Years some ears were ringing.

The pick flew over the strings as the music flowed. The riff, the sound, the feel of the guitar and pick in her hands, all of these sensations worked to give Lammy the confidence she needed to break the shell. When she and her friends had these jam sessions it was like her whole world opened up. It was times like this when she felt like she could conquer the world.

As the song came to a close, Lammy let a sigh escape her lips. The fun and freedom of playing the guitar was well worth it, but it was still exhausting. As Katy and Ma-san put down their instruments and the band took a water break, Ma-san spotted something. “Hey, isn’t that Parappa?” Her usual dialect was slowed, usually symbolizing something concerning. Katy and Lammy both looked and indeed there was the rapping pup, but the young dog definitely was not in the same mood he tended to be in. His shoulders were slouched, his eyes were misty and half-lidded, and his steps were slow, almost aimless.

Lammy’s heart broke when she saw Parappa in this state, she wanted so badly to just run up and hug him but she also was nowhere near close enough to him. She liked the young dog, more than most, but she didn’t have the will nor the regular confidence to tell him. She couldn’t confess while playing guitar, vocal talent was not her forte.

As the dog faded from view, Katy came to hover over Lammy’s shoulder. The lamb was too caught up in her own thoughts to notice her friend coming right up to her ear. “You wanna go talk to him?” Lammy jumped and sprayed her water bottle all over herself and the playful cat. The feline couldn’t help but chuckle even though she was now wet. “W-w-what?! I can’t talk to him…” she blushed slightly at the prospect of actually approaching Parappa, “I’ll just make him feel worse… knowing how I talk…”

Katy however, was not hearing this, “Lammy, you’ve been doing so much better after we started playing concerts. Didn’t you tell me about all that crazy stuff that happened before our first gig?”

“Well, yeah…” Lammy couldn’t help but hear the truth in Katy’s words, she had gone through a lot, all without a real guitar. Heck she had been practically drafted into a hospital to care for babies without a single day of training and that whole story only made Katy drive the point home“Then this should be no problem for you.” Lammy looked up and took notice that the sun was visible, the late afternoon was here. She stood, almost chugging what was left of her water. “Alright Katy, here I go.” With that, she grabbed two more water bottles from the cooler, left her guitar where it sat, and began her search.

Early evening in PaRappa Town was definitely a lot less chaotic than it usually was. Lammy walked and searched for the dog for a good long while. A few more moments and she was about to give it up, then she got a glimpse. She hurried over to where she saw him and then froze, there he was, staring at an old poster. With a hand on her arm, out of old habits, she approached. Parappa stared at an old poster of himself, he had started doing his own shows for a while now. Lammy should’ve guessed something was up. She kept track of his shows and even watched them when time allowed, but only recently had he actually canceled a show, for the first time since he started.

Lammy looked at the poster and noticed one crucial detail, Sunny Funny, she was often there with him but only once did they ever do a song together, the girl needed practice but had a measure of raw talent. “H-hey Parappa, y-you doing alright?” Lammy tried to stifle her stutter but it still managed to rear its ugly head. Parappa for his part was surprised to hear someone was there with him. He wiped fresh tears out of his eyes, trying to keep them hidden. “Oh… hey Lammy, I’m fine.” The dog sniffled, obviously lying but still not telling. “Just ahhh, remembering that show… it was a good one.” He stayed silent for a while, Lammy became more unsure about this but she was here for a reason. An arm extended out, holding a bottle of water, “Y-you should stay hydrated.” She was blushing hard but thankfully Parappa was looking at the bottle and not her face. “Hm…. thanks.” He took it almost half-heartedly, unscrewing the bottle and sipping it. His eyes widened slightly at the still cool liquid, a sip turned into a few deep gulps and a gasp for air. “Jeez, guess I needed that more than I thought. Thanks Lammy.”

Parappa had become distracted by the rockstar sheep, he hadn’t been taking care of himself and he knew it. The water broke the ice better than either of them could have alone. “Thanks for that Lammy, I really needed it.” The two began walking away from the poster but it still resounded in the sheep’s mind as one reason why the pup was down. “S-so… do you wanna talk about it?” she pried, remembering the whole reason why she had pursued him in the first place. “Oh, uuuh, not really.” He looked away, frowning at the whole thing before sighing, he couldn’t help it with Lammy. “Actually it’s Sunny…”

Now it was Lammy’s turn to frown, “Trouble in paradise?”

“That’s putting it lightly…. we broke up… hard”

“O-oh… that’s awful.” Lammy couldn’t help but feel some small measure of happiness, she’d always felt jealous of the sunflower, but now she didn’t dare let that feeling grow. She wasn’t the kind of sheep to move in after someone else left. “What happened?”

“Everything!” Parappa exclaimed and Lammy flinched, not used to the dog lashing out. However after a moment of fuming in silence he took a breath, calming his nerves before speaking again. “I did all that stuff to be with her. I learned how to drive, how to cook, I even sang and got a job for her. Then, after we started going steady, she began asking me to do things for her, buy stuff here, drive her there. At first I thought that she just needed my help, then the money just kept getting used, and I was driving her everywhere.” Lammy was frowning more and more. “She was using you?” Her voice was steady, her stutter gone as anger stabilized her mentally. Parappa, for his part, simply nodded and continued, “She always said she would stop asking once she managed to get on her feet, and she would stop if I told her off enough. That one show where she asked to sing on stage with me, it felt like she was actually trying to make something of herself… Then she asked me to help her set up her own gigs and it all fell apart. I told her that she had my support, but that I wanted us to perform together. I flipped a switch, she accused me of not wanting to support her and that if I really loved her I would give up everything to support her.” Lammy was holding back, the normally meek and shy lamb could not tolerate someone being manipulated like that. “What did you do?”

“I told her no, I told her that I couldn’t just drop everything and help her build her own career by herself. She called me a traitor, packed up her stuff and officially cut it off….”

Lammy stayed silent for a moment, they were approaching down town but the noise didn’t derail her. “Parappa… why didn’t you say anything?” She asked without letting her anger slip through. “Well, I wasn’t really open to talking to anyone, heck I haven’t even talked to my parents since the whole thing happened. I haven’t really been out much till today.”

Lammy sighed, her anger fading a little as she realized that it was all in the past and there really wasn’t much she could do about Sunny. The two of them were coming up to a theater and Lammy had an idea, “Well, since we’re here, how about we catch a movie?” Parappa blinked, looking up and seeing the theater right in front of them. He saw the posters, the titles and the people lined up, then he turned to see the sheep who was smiling gently down at her, he still hadn’t hit his growth spurt but he still had a few years left to get there. “Y’know, maybe we should. I think it’d be fun.” Lammy blushed slightly as they got in line, soon they were chatting about what was showing and almost gave up on choosing just one. Then they both spotted one last poster and geeked out for a moment over a recent release, they had found their film.

That motion picture was the start of something, it was small but it was still something. Parappa and Lammy had a great time and even went out for ice cream afterwards. They both had so much fun even if they both ended up with stomach aches the next day. Parappa soon became a regular guest at Milk Can’s jams and practice sessions, they even let the rapping dog join in sometimes. Everyone enjoyed themselves so much with the extra company. The fun had to take a pause though as the band had a concert coming up and practice took precedence over fun times. Despite this, Parappa found himself just enjoying the time spent with them, listening to Ma-san’s gibberish, watching Katy and Lammy mess with each other, it was all so enjoyable to be around. He didn’t dare discount the skill of the band, he found himself unable to look away from them as they played. His eyes found themselves lingering on a certain sheep girl who always played her heart out with the guitar in hand.

The date of the concert approached fast, and Parappa found himself wanting to spend more time with Lammy. He hadn’t even thought about Sunny since that night at the movies. Parappa gave it a lot of thought and made a decision. He was going to ask her out and he was determined to give it his best shot. Milk Can gave him a backstage pass just for being their number one fan and showing so much support, which made Parappa’s endeavor all the more simple. As Lammy leaned against an extra speaker, she tuned and experimentally strummed her guitar The sheep gave it a quick riff before she glanced up, spotting Parappa and waving him over. “Hey you made it!” she hurried over and gave him a brief hug, Parappa’s just managed to stop himself from blushing and he instead smiled. “You better knock ‘em dead today Lammy.” Parappa said nothing else, only pumping his fist and giving her a fist bump. Lammy returned it with a laugh, not usually her thing but a friendly gesture anyway. Her confidence had skyrocketed around Parappa and yet she still held off on asking him out. She thought it was still too soon after his break up with Sunny.

As the rest of Milk Can prepared to play, Lammy looked towards the stage and then back at Parappa. “You better be cheering me on the whole way.” Now it was Parappa’s turn to laugh. “Better Believe it!” He exclaimed and moved to his side of the stage. He waved to the few stage hands around and made sure not to get in the way as the band went on. The performance was better than the last time they had appeared on stage, he couldn’t deny that they seemed to get better and better every day. However, towards the end of the concert a familiar tune began to play, Parappa paused and looked around, noticing a mic being passed to him and Lammy looking right at him. “And now a very special surprise guest, Parappa theeee Rapperrrr!” The crowd exploded in cheers as the dog was gently pushed on stage. He looked out at the fans now cheering his name, and felt the spirit of the rapper come back to him. Parappa got into his groove and the lyrics flowed like a river. The crowd was electrified and so was Lammy, she’d never seen him sing up this close before.

The concert ended after a new collaboration song, Parappa actually got nervous about that one because they hadn’t practiced that often with it but the crowd still loved it. The band exited the stage and Parappa gave his brow a wipe. “Hydration time!” Katy called out as she ran over with bottles for everyone. Everyone drank heavily before Ma-san waved goodbye. Katy had to leave as well but offered Lammy a ride home, “Actually I wanted to talk with Lammy before she goes.” Parappa piped up before this entire operation was ruined by Katy by accident. Katy smiled and gave Parappa a knowing look, “Alright you too, stay out of trouble and get home safe.” Katy left almost too quickly, leaving the two of them all by themselves outside. The stage crew had already loaded the van up Katy drove and the two had nothing stopping them from leaving, save one thing. “Lammy… I wanted to thank you, ever since that night at the movies, the breakup with Sunny has felt like ancient history.” Lammy blushed and looked away, “I-i-it was nothing Parappa, we’re friends, and I wasn’t g-going to let you suffer like that.”

Parappa looked up at her and was now blushing himself, “Well, on top of that, these last few months have been really fun, it was awesome to hang out with you guys and performing with you was like a cherry on top of a hot fudge sundae….” Parappa had trouble now, he had all of last week to come up with the words and they still were hard to say. “It… it’s been a lot of fun to hang out with you especially and….” Lammy was blushing, not believing at first where this could be going but wanting it to go there all the same. “Would you like to go out… you know like, on a date? Lammy’s eyes widened, her heart began pounding and she couldn’t stop her jaw from dropping. Her face must have been as red as a tomato because Parappa seemed to pick up on what she was about to say, “Ah… are you… asking me to be your girlfriend?” Parappa rubbed the back of his head and looked sideways, “Y-yeah, you gotta believe y’know.” That catchphrase of his practically sealed the deal for her, “....yes….” she whispered.

Parappa blinked, then he blinked again as Lammy’s hands began trembling, “Yes?” he asked, almost not believing it himself. “Yes!!!” Lammy shouted, embracing parappa tightly before spinning in place with the dog in her arms. “Yes Yes Yes!!! You don’t know how much I’ve wanted to ask you too!!! This is a dream come true!!!” She couldn’t stop smiling or laughing, almost on the verge of happy tears and Parappa spun and laughed with her, unable to form words at this revelation.

The spinning came to a stop and both of them were panting slowly before realizing how close they were. The redness of their faces became more gentle, less pronounced as they both found their faces gravitating towards each other. “Parappa?” Lammy questioned this, wondering if it was moving too fast. The little dog couldn’t help but smile and simply nodded slightly before leaning forward and meeting her lips with his. Lammy froze but soon leaned into it, the new couple’s eyes closed as they enjoyed this moment. No one can predict the future, but these two knew that this new journey would be well worth it.

The bamboo was thick, and Fifi Lefume gently panted as she made her way through. This unexplored part of China called to her like a new fashion line back home. Though Fifi is usually dressed to impress, today it was functionality all the way with the barest hint of aesthetic. Her bare paws were surprisingly used to rough terrain, many adventures for priceless artifacts will do that to one self. The uneven ground rarely made her stumble. When she did, the tough material of her cargo capri pants didn’t even threaten to tear. Though the color of mud, in the wilderness that barely mattered and she didn’t have to worry.

Another hour passed and she sighed, “Eef Eet were any more difficult to locehte zis Pagoda, I would ‘ave to pack climbing boots” She tugged at her tan collar and the gray undershirt beneath. Layers helped to keep the heat off, and the colors doubled the effect. Even her black fingerless gloves and leather belt served their purpose; Hand protection without any grip loss, and keeping her normally loose shirts and whip neatly tucked where they wouldn’t easily snag. Fifi smirked as she approached the clearing, all these thoughts on her outfit almost made her forget why she was here. Stepping into the beginnings of a field, she saw her objective off in the distance. “Ze Pagoda of Peril… At Last,”

The skunk breathed a sigh of relief at the soft grass beneath her paws. “All zat rough terrain vas meking my paws sore.” She giggled, “I vill have to arrange a pedicure vhen I return home.” She smiled at the thought of a good pampering, but soon her brow set as she approached the old structure. Fifi Lafume had a mission, and the Diamond Tiger of the Ming dynasty would not rescue itself. She pressed herself against the wall of the Pagoda, peeking around the corner into the door. The old metal doors were rusted and aged, but already wide open. She smiled, her theory was correct; the thieves and bandits she was searching for were last reported heading to this area, and this was the only structure for miles. If they hadn't been here, then they would’ve most likely fled to the distant mountains, and she’d have a lot more walking to do.

Inside the ancient structure, the old metal and wood struggled and creaked from age. The stone of the first floor provided assurance for stability, but the upper floors may prove more dangerous. As Fifi considered this her eyes focused on the three figures before her. They were standing up to face her, turning and talking in some local dialect before one of them stepped forward, speaking in heavily accented English. “You don’t belong here….”

“Gentlemen, perdon my… interruption, but I was informed that the Diamond Tiger of the Ming Dynasty was nearby, would you know anything about it?” The lead weasel squinted while the one behind him to his right began to speak, but the one to his left smacked him while insulting him in the native tongue. The one in front rolled his eyes and shook his head. “We don’t have tiger, now leave.”

Fifi for her part simply smirked and put a finger to her chin in a coy pose “Vell now zat iz strange. The thieves were last seen in zis area and zis iz ze only beelding in ze area… so you three must know something.” She played on her french accent intimidating the three and it worked… sort of. The lead one stared at her with a raised eyebrow while the two in the back looked more confused and put off by it. “Where is the Tiger??” She raised her voice a bit but the lead weasel simply shook his head and moved forward. “Don’t know what you speak of, now you must leave. You not welcome here.” He approached the skunk and Fifi frowned, she had no intention of leaving and no thug hired for money was going to stop her. As the weasel’s arm came into reach the skunk recoiled, pulling her arm inward and launching it back out in a strong karate chop. The weasel grunted as he took the hit across the chest, his comrades rushing forward whilst shouting. Fifi took a ready stance, having trained in Karate all the way to black belt and dabbled in kung fu, she had a ready arsenal of martial arts to lay waste to these ruffians. As the first weasel reached her, she caught his fist and twirled into a throw, landing the weasel on his back. With a palm strike the first enemy was out, and not too soon as the one she had chopped had somewhat recovered. With a quick hop and sweep of her leg the already weakened weasel was felled, head striking the stone floor hard. The final weasel, fear driving his desperate charge, ran directly into Fifi’s roundhouse kick. All three weasels had been engaged and dispatched within seconds, and Fifi simply breathed a sigh and brushed herself off. “Amateurs”

The stairs of the pagoda creaked with age as Fifi made her way up to the second floor. The open door revealed a more narrow passageway leading to a ladder, foolishly she took a step forward. The moment her foot touched the floor, a click sounded loudly as darts were shot from the walls. The passage was not so narrow that Fifi was stuck immediately but she still had to act fast. She looked up and saw a beam of light very visible throughout the room, taking a deep breath she sprinted forward just as the darts flew through where she was. The adventurer rolled into a somersault as more darts came her way. The trigger light was unavoidable but she did not pause, from the somersault she pushed off in a backwards handspring, this time into an aerial somersault as she cleared most of the floor and escaped the threat of the light completely. She took a deep breath and smirked back at the now silent trap, “One does not trap a gymnast vith treeks of the light.”

The ladder led up through a hole in the third floor, as she climbed she saw that the stairway had collapsed and understood the need for a ladder. She huffed a bit as she reached the top, “Third floor…. One more to go….” She looked at the ceiling and hummed at the support beams visible there. “Seems some parts are better made than others.” A look to the floor made her frown. A checkered pattern spread from where she stood to the passageway to the top floor. “Well… zis is certainly an obvious trap. I wonder how zey set this one up.” She shifted her weight on the tile she stood on and nodded to herself, “Solid enough.” Taking a step onto the second tile however resulted in it falling to the level below. She had barely stepped onto it thankfully so she remained safely on the first tile. “So Zat is how it is then.” She took pause to examine the tile beneath herself and the tiles before her, she huffed, there was no pattern.

Fifi slowly took the room tile by tile, tapping lightly on each one before she put her full weight on it. There were the uncommon few that fooled her into stepping on them, only to fall away once she had already taken pause. She had to scamper over several tiles only halfway across the chamber before resting. “Oh dear, zis is not nearly as easy as the first two…” She shook her head and took a few more moments to collect herself before she proceeded forward. With one tentative step after the other she moved, it was painfully slow but there was no other way to face this challenge. Fifi stopped as she made it three-quarters of the way across the room. Upon investigating the other side in more detail she came to a realization; there was no exit. Like the previous level, that part of the structure had collapsed. She grit her teeth in frustration, “I deed not come all zis way just to turn beck now.”

Fifi scanned the wall and the ceiling and found what she was looking for, a rope dangled from a hole in the final floor. Fifi had a moment of foolishness and recklessness as she darted forward, but in her haste she had disregarded the tiles at her feet. As soon as her feet touched the last two tiles the floor gave out, just barely she leapt onto the rope, but fate was not on her side today as the rope gave way and snapped as her weight hit the strands.Fifi seemed to fall in slow motion as she glanced beneath her, a long and fatal fall for sure. In the moment she remembered, the support beams above her were sturdy and solid. Her hand found her whip before she fully grasped her plan for salvation. With a flick and a lunge the whip wrapped around the strong timber, catching and holding fast and leaving the polecat dangling over a story and a half fall. “Well I may not have been made for flying,” She climbed carefully, one hand after the other and slowly she rose, “But I can make dew.”

The final floor contained a large chamber with a stone Table in the center. Fifi gasped as she looked at the treasure resting upon this platform; The Diamond Tiger of the Ming Dynasty. Mesmerized, Lafume stepped forward, approaching the table and gazing upon it even more closely. Her arms reached to attempt to grasp it, but the resulting Gong nearly sent Fifi to the ceiling in surprise. As she landed and looked around, she saw now that she was surrounded. These weasels were all a little larger than the ones on the first floor, but none of them looked as unprepared. Each one of them was dressed in a han fu; the traditional garb of Shaolin kung fu. ‘This just got serious.’ Fifi thought as took her ready stance against the silent warriors. They had one objective, to protect this artifact. The first assailant approached and his movements were not wasted, no wild swings or shouting, he lunged and shot his fist out in a direct line to Fifi’s face. Lafume did not train for years to be beaten by these warriors.

The first response was a sweep kick that caught the warrior by surprise, sending him sprawling, however the weasel rolled away whilst his ally struck from behind, Fifi ducked a high kick and responded with her own low, the attacker grit his teeth as he fell into an upward punch, dazing him long enough to receive a finishing kick that sent him to dreamland. The remaining three paused, all of a sudden their skill seemed equaled by this little skunk. They looked to each other and nodded before spreading out around the Fifi, for her part the skunk watched each one, glancing around as she was surrounded. She smirked, these weasels thought they could surround her, well she would not let them. The moment they paused in their new positions she darted, not forward, but to her left, the Weasel flinched and that was his mistake. Fifi leapt over the warrior chopping him in the neck before he could completely turn to face her, with a palm strike follow-up to the face and a hard kick to the gut and then the face as well, another weasel was down. The weasel fell just as the last two assailants double-teamed and attacked her together. Fifi raised her arms in a block of the first kick, but she fell backwards with it, rolling up and jumping back. She hopped towards the two and circled around the left, fainting a stop she swiftly moved into the weasel’s reach but immediately tripped and grappled him into a throw. The other weasel attempted to take advantage but was met with a high side kick directly to the chin, his own momentum increased the force and he fell back with a splitting headache. The skunk did not give the two the time to recover, she stepped into a kick that ko’d the one who ran into the first one and turned to face the disoriented one still trying to shake off dizziness from her throw. “Au revoir mon ami.” With a jump and a cry of victory, the final kick was delivered, and the weasels were defeated, not to wake up for some time.

Fifi gasped and fell to her knees, she panted slowly and put an arm to her forehead in fatigue. “Phew… that one could’ve gone very badly.” She took a knee and supported herself for a moment before standing. “And now for you my leetle Shiny Statue.” Stepping up towards the stone table resulted in no hidden trigger and the Tiger sat on no pedestal or switch. She took the diamond statuette and tested its weight in her paws. “Hm, not as heavy as I was thinking.” She smiled and looked to the hole she came from, “Hmmm, not getting out zat way.” With this in mind Fifi made her way to a nearby window. The shutters had rotted away and she had a clear view of the outside. She would have to get down somehow, she took a seat as she thought up a solution. A light flicked on in Fifi’s mind, and she reached into the thick fluff of her tail and pulled out a grappling hook. “I don’t usually like taking up more space in there, but this time eet was worth it.” With careful aim she shot the grapple out to a solid hold in the roof. With a test of its weight she began to lower herself down, having to rappel in a few places before she came to a halt halfway through the last floor. “Ah, but of course.” She clutched the Diamond Tiger tightly as she began to swing back and forth, with an adjustment for the weight of the tiger, she let go and somersaulted down into a near perfect landing. The adventure known as Fifi Lafume walked away with her prize, ready to return it to where it belonged, she gave the Pagoda one final look back and smirked, blowing it and its unconscious occupants a kiss. “Don’t worry boys, I’ll send someone to properly attend to you.” With that, Fifi Lafume walked back into the bamboo forest she had exited just an hour before, starting her trek back to civilization.

Hey everyone, I know it's been a while but recently I hit a slump with artist's block. I plan on getting back into it with writing commissions and posting the art I buy, but I just want everyone to know that I am alright and ready to start posting again.

This story was commissioned by www.deviantart.com/windycitypu… and I must say it's interesting to work with an actual Looniversity character.

I am always open for SFW story commissions and prices are negotiable.

Fifi Lafume belongs to Warner Bros.

Good Now and God Bless
